“FAST PACED MODERN APPROACH, BUT STILL SHAKESPEARE”

The upcoming evenings at the HWS Theater promise to be spectacular. Shakespeare’s classic and famous tragedy is coming to the college stage at HWS. Macbeth is the fearless and respected warrior who becomes a murderer rather than waiting to become the next in line to the throne, yet he has the reverence of his followers and the respect of the incumbent king. This performance of Macbeth features the largest cast the recently opened McDonald Theater has hosted.
This approach to Macbeth is directed by Associate Professor of Theater Chris Hatch. Macbeth is Hatch’s latest play on a Hobart and William Smith stage. He recently directed the HWS production of Boeing Boeing and is now moving on to realize his own enactment of this classic subject, after playing the part of Macduff in the Delaware Park (Buffalo, NY) production of Macbeth. Hatch is also a part of the Syracuse Stage ensemble, where he will be featured as Rochefort in The Three Musketeers this fall.
“We are going for a fast-paced, modern approach, which will stay true to the classic formula at the same time.” says student Eros Cabrera 19’, who is featured in the role of Donalbain. “There may be some additional new roles and the final performance might have an underlying dystopian feel to it.”
The play premieres on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. with additional dates on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the College Store and Gearan Center box office.
